Back when JJ's were "unfixed" and poptarting was the meta, the HGN was THE king of the battlefield. It had mobility, great HP's and locations, and the weight to carry almost as much weaponry as an atlas. Alas, the HGN's declined from superiority and now sit in the dusty cobwebbed corners of many players' mechbays.

What made the HGN so good, to me at least, was the 90 ton sweet spot they hit. 90 is the "Goldilocks Zone" of tonnage for an assault and it allowed for the best mechbuilding and variability in loadouts out of any mech.

Any speculation of another 90 tonner in the future? They can give it the most terrible hitboxes and I wouldn't care, as long as it was 90 tons and had a great HP layout.

I don't think there is a specific and urgent need for another mech at that weight.

Also because of timeline variant restrictions you really only have the Cyclops available.

I agree. Each weight class has a Goldilocks Zone and I think that we need another assault Mech in the 90 ton category.

Even with jump jets nonfunctional, I wonder, why nobody pilots the Highlander anymore... is it... there can be only one?

Mauler! Ballistic hardpoints in each side torso/arm (depends on variant, one has 2 hardpoints in each ST and the other 1 hardpoint in each arm without arm and lower arm actuators so dual AC20 capable + HoverjetsTM).

A lighter ECM probable Assault would have it's place in some dropdecks, so I am all for the Cyclops. Decent speed, a little heavy, but have potential to work.

You leave my poor Atlas alone! :D

The Mauler would be the obvious choice given the current meta, though I think it's somewhat in the future given the time line. Adherents should also bear in mind that the thing is similar to the AS7 and AUS8 in that it's going to have giant sized side torsos and will therefore be exposed to the same issues that plague the Atlas and Awesome. Still, 2 x AC-20s plus missiles or lasers... Tempting...

Are the Victors and Highlanders really so bad now that HoverJets™ are a thing? I find it hard to believe there's absolutely no place for 90-tonners in this game that can still move rather briskly for an assault.

(No, I've never piloted one. I'm a light/medium speed/crack-*****).

I still do OK in them, but OK is not good enough for most peeps around here especially.

VTR's are my favorite mech ever, to date in this game, TT anywhere, i love em! and always have! Its a shame to see them be so mediocre but poptarting stuff wasnt so much fun either. I dont wanna be a pastry...

But if we could get some thrust back in those babies i would love to have my mobile assault back soon!

Low weapon hardpoints. 3 weapon type hardpoints. Low amaount of energy hardpoints.

Thats the 3 arguments for mech failure without super-quirkening.
